Dear Incoming Old Dominion University Student: On behalf of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, I would like to congratulate you on your acceptance to Old Dominion University. With your acceptance to Old Dominion University come many new responsibilities and opportunities. One of those responsibilities concerns your financial obligation of paying for four years of undergraduate study. There are many opportunities for scholarships, but most are targeted at either academic or athletic achievements. I would like to offer you an opportunity to compete for a scholarship, The Balanced Man Scholarship, which is designed to reward the complete individual. Each year, Sigma Phi Epsilon awards the Balanced Man Scholarship to a variety of male freshman. As we currently hold the highest GPA out of all fraternities on campus with a 3.03, we can sympathize with the time and energy required to have a successful college career. The winner of the scholarship does not need to be affiliated with SigEp, nor are they in any way obligated to join the Fraternity. The purpose of the scholarship is merely to enhance your college experience and to make your transition to college the best that it can be. I would also like to take this time to briefly explain the history of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and the Balanced Man Scholarship. Founded in 1901, at Richmond College, Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded on the ideals of Virtue, Diligence and Brotherly Love. In more recent years SigEp has also adopted the ideals of the Balanced Man, which dictate a Sound Mind & Sound Body. As a result many chapters throughout the nation have begun a Balanced Man Scholarship program to award incoming male freshman that meet the SigEp ideals. The prize awarded come directly from the funds raised by the chapter, not the Sigma Phi Epsilon National Headquarters. The Balanced Man Scholarship is an excellent opportunity to better yourself and to ease your financial burdens. This year we will be awarding a number of individuals with scholarships and hope you take advantage of this opportunity. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must have earned at least a 3.0 GPA in high school. In addition, to qualify, you must be a freshman attending Old Dominion University in the fall of 2007. Please return the attached application, along with a copy of your high school transcript, by August 15, 2008 to: Will Gwin Depending on your application, you may be contacted for an interview at Old Dominion University. We look forward to receiving your application. Please feel free to contact me with any questions at: wgwin001@odu.edu or by telephone at: (757)892-4519 I look forward to hearing from you!
